what is the wand chronicles?

The Wand Chronicles is an Epic High Fantasy series by author Michael Ross. Set across vast worlds filled with powerful magic, ancient civilisations, and cosmic conflict, the series blends epic scale storytelling with deeply personal character journeys.

The fantasy genre includes many sub-categories, but The Wand Chronicles sits firmly within Epic High Fantasy.

It can help to name some comparable books, films and television series, which helps to define the genre

What Makes it Epic High Fantasy

Comparable television series and films that reflect the scale, tone and audience of The Wand Chronicles include:

·      Game of Thrones

·      The Witcher

·      Lord of the Rings

·      Shadow & Bone

So now we have a pretty good idea of what sort of story will unfold, but not only that, what sort of world I have built, what sort of creatures will appear.

There will be magic, other species besides humans, magical wands, dragons, dark and dangerous creatures from many other parts of the cosmos in the ‘universe’ I have created.

And so, I am an Epic High Fantasy author who has created an Epic High Fantasy world.

Not only that, I always found that if I enjoyed a book, I would want to have more books in the same vein, or better still, in a series, and so it is with The Wand Chronicles.

The World of Laniakeea

Laniakeea is vast beyond words. Approx. 17 trillion Elves live on Laniakeea, and if you were to place a full stop (or a period mark), on the map of Laniakeea, that would represent the size of our own planet, Earth.

It is important to note that Laniakeea is known as a Queendom, and ruled over by Queen Haruntha. Queen Haruntha also reincarnates every 280 years, so she is 6 million years old. How do the Elves transport from one side of Laniakeea to another? Simply by using magical Leylines.

The Central Story Conflict

If we were observed by higher intellect beings from other worlds or the cosmos, they would see a planet almost brought to destruction by the very species that call Planet Earth their home!

And this is, in fact, the case with The Wand Chronicles.

But we have been observed by Elves, secretly, for over 3 million years, and they could wait no longer to try to intervene to stop the crass, irresponsible humans from destroying their planet.

Meet the Main Characters

There are characters that are an important part of the story, take Elfistra.

Elfistra is an Elvish sorceress and is charged with protecting the Elvish queendom of Laniakeea. (Laniakeea is translated from Solderan, an ancient Elvish dialect, to mean, The Immeasurable Dimension.)

Elfistra is almost 6 million years old. She reincarnates every 280 years (the lifespan of a typical Elf), but she doesn’t like humans much at all. She finds them annoying, lacking in social graces, with absolutely no magical abilities to speak of.

Magical Wands, Dark Magic Factions, Aliens and Scriptures

So, the Elves stepped in to help. They brought with them the most powerful wand in the cosmos, called Elvina.

But that one act of kindness also brought trouble.

You see, greed is a universal act, no matter what you are and from where you originated, and so Elvina is the object of desire by many dark magic factions. Elvina is so powerful that many would relish the thought of having this unusual magical wand in their possession.

But there is something else in this story, whose power is on a par with that of Elvina, a power that is also universal across the cosmii and different elf, human, and alien species.

That power is the power of ‘Love’.

Within the story, you will learn that there are scriptures, magical scriptures, that dictate and advise courses of action to take; however, in this particular case, the scriptures offer no resolution or help! This is unknown in terms of scriptures.

It seems it is a case of having to ‘wait and find out’

This makes everything uneasy. We all like to know where we are headed, what we may come across on our journeys, but to have no information, or even hints, or possibilities of what to expect, makes us all very jittery.

Let’s go back to the word ‘Love’.

I hope you are not thinking this is a powerful emotion that is only found in the human race. Oh no, it abounds everywhere.

General Hugo Brough and Allana Yana-Ash

The heroes of our story are an English General, Hugo Brough and a beautiful Elf scientist called Allana Yana-Ash.

They fall in love.

Much to the consternation of the humans and the Elves in general.

Hugo and Allana are warned that ‘to fall in love’ is forbidden.

So, what will happen?

At this point, the scriptures are at a loss.

Very powerful, magical movements then begin to take shape that could result in the restoration of the Earth to its beautiful former glory, or not. To the formation of a new species, a hybrid between humans and elves, or not.

At this very moment, frustration is the keyword. It is the ‘not knowing’ that frustrates everyone, elf and human alike.

The Books in the Series

·      Elfistra the Sorceress

·      Kia the Empath

·      Eternity

·      The Prequel

Although The Prequel is a short book outlining an overview of the whole series

The Wand Chronicles explores these insights and avenues, and the more they explore, the more it is that questions will be asked, that may never be able to be answered.

We simply don’t know.

About the Author

Michael Ross is the author and creator of The Wand Chronicles and has written 28 books to date for all ages and different genres.

By far, my favourite genre is Epic High Fantasy.

And a TV series is currently in development.
